There are total of seven coronaviruses that can infect humans, with the new virus now available in China. The new virus, 2019-nCoV (2019-new Coronavirus), belongs to the coronaviruses – its shape is named because it resembles a corona under an electron microscope. Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that are common for animals. In rare cases, it can be transmitted from animals to humans. Other well-known coronaviruses are those that have caused SARS and MERS syndromes, which were previously responsible for many outbreaks in dozens of countries and deaths.
In Wuhan city, the seafood market was sealed after the first human incidents were reported in late December. The disease is thought to have passed from raccoon, bat or snake to human being sold in the market.
Then, human-to-human gene transfer began.
What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus contains RNA. The genome of the new virus is rapidly sequenced. Viruses are not recognized as a form of life by all biologists due to the presence of a non-cellular phase of existence. In fact, this is the most primitive form of parasitism.
The Virae group is clearly a prefabricated group, eukaryotic viruses and similar bacterial phages have appeared repeatedly. Others are so tightly connected with the host that they embed their genomes into their chromosomes without showing themselves. This form of existence is called a provirus.
Stress can activate the output of the viral genome from the host chromosome for replication. One gets sick suddenly.
A long stay in the host chromosome leads to the loss of viral genes between its sticky ends, which allow them to stick together in a stable ring or incorporate into the chromosome at the site of a complementary sequence. It turns out the so-called mobile element of the genome, the highest form of parasitism is the information one. Mobile elements make up half of the human genome and can be transmitted horizontally.
RNA-containing viruses, upon entry into the host cell, immediately produce their own proteins and only then, using reverse transcriptase, they synthesize DNA for the propagation of viral particles. This indicates the secondary of viruses. In the past, earthly life had neither proteins nor DNA; RNA played all roles. Enzymes were ribozymes.
Viral reverse transcriptase is used for genetic engineering and many other molecular genetic procedures.
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) allows you to amplify and increase the mass of a specific DNA sequence for various procedures including sequencing.
What Are the Symptoms of Infection with The Virus?
Coronaviruses often cause mild and moderate upper respiratory tract infection with symptoms like colds, runny nose, cough, sore throat, possibly headache and fever. People with a weakened immune system can cause much more serious respiratory infections (such as bronchitis or pneumonia), kidney failure, and even death.
Is There Any Treatment?
There is currently no specific treatment for coronavirus; treatment is symptomatic and is related to painkillers and antipyretics.
According to current data, the death rate in China is 2%, the number of people infected with the virus is 213. 187 of them died.
According to published data, eight were aged 80 or older, two in the 70s, five in the 60s, and one in the 50s. Analyzing 291 serious patients hospitalized for the new virus, the World Health Organization Emergency Situations, 72% of cases were over 40 years old, 64% were men, and 40% had underlying disease…
Major Events Canceled;
On the Spring Festival, all events were canceled in China, with a large number of people, as well as long-standing sports competitions. The Great Wall of China is closed. Before the beginning of February, it will build a 2300-bed hospital in Wuhan on an area of 25,000 square meters. Hubei province took urgent measures to combat the virus, allocated more than 100m euros. Hundreds of doctors and medical staff have already gone to this area. Spring break will be extended, schools will take longer than usual, and in some cities, not only schools but also companies will close.
